Fire destroys goods worth millions at Lagos Computer Village

Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed after a fire outbreak engulfed a one storey commercial building in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State. The incident occurred on Somoye Osundairo Street in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said the fire broke out at about 1:55 a.m., prompting the activation of the state’s emergency response from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa. LASEMA said its response team observed intense flames and heavy smoke on arrival, with the fire spreading rapidly due to the high volume of combustible materials in the building.

The agency said the entire upper floor of the building, which housed dealers in computers and accessories, was completely razed, destroying all goods stored there. No fatalities were recorded, though some firefighters sustained minor injuries, while the structure was said to have been partially compromised and would require further assessment.

LASEMA said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined and remains under investigation. It added that the blaze was successfully contained through a joint operation involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS and the Nigeria Police Force, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
