Former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh says Nigeria’s failure to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was caused by what he described as Victor Osimhen’s toxic on-field outburst against teammates. Speaking in a YouTube video, Oliseh said the incident damaged team chemistry and undermined the Eagles’ psychological balance during the tournament in Morocco.
He was referring to a confrontation during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique, when Osimhen berated Ademola Lookman and other teammates before asking to be substituted and leaving the pitch early. Oliseh said Lookman, who had been one of Nigeria’s standout performers, struggled to regain form after the incident, adding that the team lost its attacking edge in subsequent matches, including the semi-final defeat to hosts Morocco.

Oliseh also criticised what he described as a growing tolerance for indiscipline among fans, warning that excusing such behaviour risks encouraging entitlement over teamwork.
