Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, says Nigeria is on the right path, even though many citizens are yet to feel the impact of recent economic policies. Speaking in an interview, the lawyer defended President Bola Tinubu’s performance since assuming office in May 2023.
Dogara said the president inherited deep rooted challenges in the economy and security, arguing that such problems can not be resolved overnight. He said progress is beginning to show in areas previously neglected, including security in parts of the north, adding that leadership requires continuity rather than blame.

He acknowledged that economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, the floating of the naira and tax changes, had increased the cost of living. However, Dogara said the measures are necessary to address years of systemic decay, adding that the full benefits would take time to be felt, even as some anti-corruption and revenue leak prevention efforts are already yielding results.
