Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed claims that recently implemented tax laws were altered after being passed by the National Assembly. Speaking during plenary, he said the versions gazetted and signed into law accurately reflect the decisions taken by lawmakers in both chambers. His comments followed allegations by Abdussamad Dakuku, a member of the House of Representatives, who suggested that publicly circulated copies differed from those approved by parliament.
Akpabio described the claims as unfounded, insisting that only documents issued and certified by the National Assembly should be considered authentic. He said the final texts resulted from extensive deliberations in the Senate and House of Representatives, followed by harmonisation of differences. The Senate President added that four tax related acts had completed the legislative process, received presidential assent from President Bola Tinubu, and were gazetted and certified by the Clerk to the National Assembly.

He directed the Clerk of the Senate to distribute certified copies of the tax reform acts to all senators, warning against releasing the documents through unofficial channels to prevent misinformation.
