Bomb scare in Abia church clarified as false alarm

The Abia State Police Command has denied reports that a bomb or improvised explosive device was recovered at the United Evangelical Church in Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill, Aba. The Command said investigations by the Divisional Police Officer covering the area found no evidence of any explosive device.

Public Relations Officer Maureen Chinaka said the incident was linked to a road reconstruction project by the state government. The church had encroached on the road corridor and was asked to adjust its structure, but failed to comply. The military intervened to enforce the directive.

During the adjustment process, an iron rod from a church pillar was removed by the military. The police clarified that the object was not a bomb or explosive and that no explosive device was recovered anywhere in Aba.

Authorities reassured residents that the police remain vigilant and strategically deployed across the state to protect lives and property. Reports that over 100 deaths were averted were false, stemming from the misidentification of the iron rod.
