The General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General Bemgha Koughna, has survived an ambush by suspected Lakurawa terrorists near Mayama Hill in Kebbi State. He was on his way to visit frontline troops when the attack occurred.
Details of the attack were revealed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma. According to him, the convoy came under heavy gunfire in a forested area. Troops responded swiftly, killing five attackers and successfully repelling the ambush.
A search of the area led to the recovery of rifles, magazines, ammunition, eight hundred and forty thousand naira, mobile phones and motorcycles. The Army says the operation disrupted the group’s activities.

They have assured residents that troops will remain on high alert to prevent further attacks and have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting civilians across the North West.
