Suspected bandits abducted a Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area in the early hours of Sunday, July 26.
Sources said gunmen stormed the judge’s home along Zogirma Road around midnight, shortly after he returned from a trip to Sokoto, firing sporadically before whisking him away. No other household member was injured.
Kebbi Police spokesperson Bashir Usman confirmed the abduction, saying Commissioner of Police Umar Muhammad Hadejia deployed tactical and intelligence teams, combing forest areas and suspected hideouts in pursuit of the kidnappers.
A senior Kebbi High Court official called the incident “deeply disturbing” for the judiciary, saying court management has begun consultations with security agencies to secure the judge’s release. No group has claimed responsibility, and the incident underscores growing insecurity targeting public officials across Nigeria’s North-West.
