The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has presented a proposed ₦184.4 billion budget for 2026 to the joint National Assembly committees on aviation. He said the proposal is aimed at modernising safety systems, upgrading digital infrastructure, and strengthening human capacity across the sector.
The minister stated that the plan focuses on improving operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and service delivery in line with global standards. He also highlighted achievements in 2025, including the clearance of outstanding debts owed to foreign airlines.
Keyamo listed other milestones such as Nigeria’s compliance with the Cape Town Convention, the resumption of direct flights to the United Arab Emirates, and the launch of direct Abuja to Heathrow operations by a local carrier. He also briefed lawmakers on a recent fire incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport that damaged critical equipment and appealed for support to replace the affected facilities.

Lawmakers urged prudent management of public funds and called on ministries and agencies to prioritise ongoing projects. They emphasised transparency, accountability, and the need for the 2026 budget to promote infrastructure development and economic growth.
