Suspected political thugs have set fire to the African Democratic Congress secretariat in Ubima Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The attack happened on Thursday night ahead of a visit by the former Rivers State governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi.
Residents say the assailants invaded the community, fired gunshots and set the party office ablaze. Amaechi had earlier arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport and was heading to Ubima to validate his registration with the ADC.
Witnesses also reported that the attackers returned on Friday morning and mounted a roadblock along the Omuawa Ubima Road, stopping buses displaying ADC banners from entering the community.
