Suspected fighters of Boko Haram have attacked a military base in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing the commanding officer and other personnel.
Local sources say the insurgents stormed the camp shortly after midnight on Monday, launching the assault from multiple directions and engaging troops stationed in the town.
Security sources say the attackers overran the base, set military vehicles on fire and took away ammunition, although the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed.

The attack follows a similar incident last month in the area when troops repelled an assault on the same base. It also comes days after insurgents reportedly attacked a military base and an internally displaced persons camp in Ngoshe town in Gwoza Local Government Area.
