Troops repel ISWAP attack in Borno, 26 terrorists dead

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Kukawa community in Borno State, neutralising 26 terrorists and destroying 10 motorcycles.

Military spokesman Mohammed Goni says terrorists attacked troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion around 10:50 p.m. on August 28th. Troops responded with direct and indirect fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw toward the Cross Kauwa axis.

An aerial operation then tackled the fleeing terrorists, killing an estimated 10 before a follow-up precision strike killed 15 more as they retreated on motorcycles. Ground troops recovered terrorist corpses, weapons and ammunition.

Four soldiers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were evacuated for treatment; the military says they are in stable condition.
