The Senate has called on the Armed Forces to intensify counter-insurgency operations in the North-East following a deadly attack on a military formation in Borno State.
The resolution followed a motion raised by Senator Tahir Monguno, who represents Borno North, over the assault on an army base in Kukawa Local Government Area on 9 March 2026.
Lawmakers said suspected insurgents attacked the base from multiple directions, engaging troops in a gun battle that lasted several hours. Lieutenant Colonel Umar Faroug and several other soldiers were reported killed, while military vehicles were set ablaze and weapons looted.
