Trump Says No Deal with Iran Yet as War Continues to Threaten Oil Supply and Global Economy

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, says he is not yet ready to make a deal with Tehran to end the war. Officials from his administration say the conflict could last several more weeks, and other countries may help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively shut down.

Israel’s military says it plans to continue operations in Iran for at least three more weeks. The campaign targets ballistic missile sites, air defences, and command centres, and Israel claims it struck more than 200 locations over the past day. Iran has not immediately responded.

The death toll from the conflict continues to rise. At least 1,300 people have been killed in Iran, and more than 850 in Lebanon, since Israel began its attacks there. The Pentagon also confirmed the deaths of six US air crew members in a recent aircraft crash in Iraq.

The war has disrupted global oil supplies and pushed up US gas prices, which now average $3.70 a gallon, a 24 percent increase since the conflict began. Economists warn that ongoing disruptions could trigger a recession as nations work to secure the vital Strait of Hormuz.
