CDS urges Borno and Yobe residents to help end insurgency

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, says ending the Boko Haram insurgency requires the active involvement of residents of Borno and Yobe states. He made the call during a visit to Maiduguri, where he is overseeing security operations.

The Defence Chief, alongside the Chief of Army Staff, General Waidi Shaibu, relocated to the Borno State capital on the directive of President Bola Tinubu. The move follows recent explosions in the state that led to deaths and injuries.

Oluyede said many of those behind the attacks are known within local communities, stressing the need for residents to take responsibility and support security efforts. He noted that some attackers have been identified as members of the same communities they target.

He added that the military is adapting to evolving tactics by insurgents, including the use of drones, and is strengthening its response. Authorities say recent attacks by Boko Haram have increased, affecting both military formations and civilian areas.
