The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed the opening of a 15-kilometre section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway to vehicular traffic. The directive follows progress recorded in the ongoing reconstruction of the major highway linking the South East region. The road is a critical corridor for movement and commerce.
Umahi said the decision was taken to ease congestion and reduce travel time for road users. He explained that opening completed sections of the road would provide immediate relief while work continues on other parts of the project. He added that the ministry is focused on improving road infrastructure nationwide.
The minister also instructed contractors handling the project to maintain quality standards and adhere to timelines. He emphasised that infrastructure projects must be delivered efficiently to meet the needs of the public. He said supervision will be strengthened to ensure compliance.
