NERC Launches Forum to Align Federal and State Power Regulations

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has inaugurated a new forum aimed at harmonising electricity regulations between federal and state authorities. The initiative is designed to improve coordination during the transition to a more decentralised electricity market.

The commission’s chairman, Musiliu Oseni, said the forum will address regulatory gaps and prevent conflicts between federal and state frameworks. He noted that the evolving structure of the power sector requires stronger collaboration to ensure consistency in policy implementation.

Oseni said the platform will allow regulators to align positions on key issues such as tariffs, licensing, market operations, and consumer protection. He added that the forum will also promote transparency and reduce uncertainty for investors and stakeholders in the sector.

The commission said the forum will serve as a consultative mechanism for ongoing dialogue among regulators. It expressed confidence that improved coordination will strengthen governance in the electricity sector and support better power supply outcomes across the country.
