US President Donald Trump, in a televised address to his country, said that United States military forces have nearly accomplished their objectives in the month-long war with Iran. The president stated that the U.S. has destroyed Iran’s navy and air force while crippling its ballistic missile and nuclear programs. However, he offered no concrete plan for winding down the war, now in its fifth week, beyond saying the U.S. would finish the job “very fast.”
Mr Trump warned that if Iran’s new leadership does not negotiate satisfactorily over the next two to three weeks, the U.S. would begin attacking the nation’s electricity generation and oil infrastructure. The president said the U.S. would “hit them extremely hard” and “bring them back to the Stone Ages,” though he acknowledged that discussions remain ongoing.
He also glossed over unresolved issues, including the status of Iran’s enriched uranium and access through the Strait of Hormuz, which he said would open “naturally” once the war ends.

The address came as the president faces a war-wary American public, with a Reuters-Ipsos survey conducted from Friday through Sunday showing 60 percent of voters disapproved of the war, while 66 percent said the U.S. should work to end its involvement quickly, even if that means not achieving all administration goals. Mr Trump briefly acknowledged growing concerns over gasoline prices but insisted the increases were primarily Iran’s fault and that costs would soon decline.
