ADC Members Stage ‘Save Democracy’ march in Abuja

Prominent opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have led a “Save Nigeria Democracy” protest in Abuja on April 8. The demonstration was organised by the African Democratic Congress.

Other political leaders present included Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola. Protesters gathered at Maitama Roundabout and marched towards the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The organisers accuse the electoral commission of favouring the ruling All Progressives Congress and undermining Nigeria’s democracy. Placards seen at the protest carried messages including calls to protect the judiciary and democratic institutions.

Atiku said the protest was aimed at safeguarding democracy and preventing authoritarian rule, while Obi called on Nigerians to join what he described as a peaceful demonstration in defence of the country’s democratic system.
