The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, says rising insecurity in the country is being fuelled by political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja during the commissioning of the Nigeria Revenue Service headquarters, alleging that some individuals are sponsoring violence to distract the government as elections approach.
Mr Akpabio said incidents of insecurity would likely decline shortly after the elections, while commending President Bola Tinubu for continuing governance reforms despite security challenges.

He also dismissed opposition concerns about a one-party state, attributing their criticism to internal disorganisation, and addressed calls for the resignation of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, over an alleged partisan social media post.
