FG Moves To Ease Pressure On Airlines Over Fuel Costs

President Bola Tinubu has approved relief measures for airline operators following a sharp rise in the cost of Jet A1 fuel. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says the move is aimed at preventing disruptions in air transport services.

Keyamo made the announcement on Wednesday after a meeting in Lagos with officials from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, airline operators and oil marketers. The meeting was called in response to concerns over rising aviation fuel prices.

He says the President has approved discounts on certain outstanding fees owed by airlines to the Federal Government. The measure is intended to ease financial pressure on operators and sustain operations.

The minister also says a special committee will be set up to review and reduce multiple taxes and levies in airfares. Authorities say the intervention comes amid growing tension in the aviation sector over increasing operational costs.
