The Department of State Services has arraigned former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai before a Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged interception of a telephone conversation involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. The case was heard on Thursday.
El-Rufai is facing a five-count amended charge, which was increased from three counts at the start of proceedings. He pleaded not guilty to all charges before the presiding judge, Joyce Abdulmalik.

Following his plea, the prosecution requested trial dates, but the defence said it needed time to consult with the defendant, citing his detention by multiple security agencies. The court was also informed of a pending bail application, although the judge said a related affidavit was not in her records. The matter was stood down to allow clarification on the filing.
