Gunmen who abducted worshippers during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Ekiti State have demanded a ransom of one billion naira for their release. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, where a visiting pastor was also killed.
Residents say the attackers stormed the church during a revival programme at about 7:15 in the evening, firing shots for more than 30 minutes before abducting 15 people and taking them into a nearby forest. Families of the victims are still awaiting updates on rescue efforts.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has visited the community and ordered the deployment of a joint security team, including police and military personnel, to carry out search operations. He assured residents that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of those abducted.
