The Joint Investigation Centre at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri says it has completed investigations involving 1,450 suspected terrorists arrested during counter-insurgency operations. Commander of the centre, Brigadier-General Yusuf Audu, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
Audu, who was represented by Captain Puole Obinwal, said more than 500 suspects had already been moved for prosecution, with many reportedly convicted after trial. He explained that suspects are screened and categorised for prosecution, rehabilitation or reintegration depending on findings from investigations and legal reviews.
The commander said the centre operates as a multi-agency facility involving the Army, Police, DSS, Immigration Service, Correctional Service and other security institutions. He added that investigations are conducted under the Terrorism Prevention Act with judicial oversight through Federal High Court remand orders.
