Lagos Politician Funso Doherty Dumps African Democratic Congress for Nigerian Democratic Congress

Funsho Doherty Urges Leaders to Prioritise Public Interest in Addressing Economic Woes

Funso Doherty, former Lagos gubernatorial candidate, has dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), weeks after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ADC. Doherty made this known in a statement issued on Thursday, explaining that the ADC is currently facing a development that has led to a division of the opposition coalition, with some leaders moving to the NDC and some remaining in the ADC.

He said he had hoped that the ADC would be the vehicle that would unite the opposition, adding that since that is no longer the case, each individual must make a decision as to whether to remain with the ADC or move to the NDC. Announcing his membership of the NDC, Doherty stated that he joined the party after due consultation, careful deliberation and prayerful reflection.

Doherty described the NDC as the path that will enable the opposition to deliver the benefits of good governance to those to whom they are due, every citizen without exception. He said the battle ahead remains formidable but invited citizens to join him on what he called an exciting, though sometimes turbulent, journey to a brighter future that has been long promised and has so far proven elusive.

The politician had earlier dumped the PDP for the ADC, citing the alleged influence of the All Progressives Congress following a court ruling. His move to the NDC comes amid a wider realignment of opposition forces, with the NDC positioning itself as a major alternative platform.
