Minister of Power Denies Promise to Fix Grid in 3 Months

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has denied reports claiming he promised to fix the national power grid within 3 months.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, Tegbe said no such commitment was made during his Senate screening on May 6, 2026. He said timelines for reforms in the power sector were still being developed through technical assessments and consultations with stakeholders.

The minister said efforts to stabilise the national grid would begin within his first 100 days in office, while wider reforms involving gas supply, metering, operational efficiency and sector credibility could take up to 1 year to achieve meaningful progress.

Tegbe also pledged to modernise electricity infrastructure, strengthen commercial frameworks and protect vulnerable households during electricity tariff reforms, while urging the media to seek clarification before publishing reports on the sector.
