A High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has issued a warrant for the arrest of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, after he failed to appear for proceedings in an alleged N31 billion fraud case on Monday.
Justice Maryanne Anenih granted the application by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, and ordered the trial to continue in Mamman’s absence. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is prosecuting Mamman and seven others on charges including conspiracy, false pretence and intent to defraud over funds linked to the Mambilla Power Project.
Mamman’s lawyer, Femi Atteh, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, told the court he did not know his client’s whereabouts. Prosecutors said a previous arrest warrant issued last week by the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Mamman was convicted in a separate N33.8 billion fraud case, had not yet been executed.

The EFCC alleges that more than N26 billion meant for power projects was diverted through Bureau de Change operators during Mamman’s tenure as minister between 2019 and 2021. The case was adjourned until Thursday, May 14, for continuation of trial proceedings.
