NEMA Urges States to Act Early as Flood Risks Rise Nationwide

The National Emergency Management Agency has called on state governments across Nigeria to take urgent steps to prepare for possible flooding during the 2026 rainy season. The agency warned that more than 30 states could face severe flood risks this year.

NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar made the appeal during a visit to Adamawa State as part of a national flood preparedness campaign. She urged states to enforce environmental sanitation, clear drainage, and strengthen emergency management structures at all levels.
