Police in Lagos have arraigned six men before a magistrate’s court over alleged conspiracy and membership of unlawful societies linked to cult groups.
The defendants, identified as Mustapha Bello, Lateef Ajala, Ismail Abu, Monsuru Fasipe, Rasheed Sulaimon and Taoreed Rauf, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them on Thursday.
Prosecutor Josephine Ikhayere told the court that the suspects were arrested over incidents that allegedly occurred in the Orile Igamu area of Lagos on April 13 and April 27. Five of the defendants were accused of belonging to the proscribed Aiye Confraternity, while one was accused of membership of the Eiye Confraternity.

Magistrate L.A. Owolabi granted bail to three of the defendants in the sum of five hundred thousand naira each with sureties in like sum, while the remaining three were remanded in custody. The case was adjourned until June 16.
