The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Defence, the service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, and the Minister of Finance to provide details of funds released to security agencies over the past six months.
The resolution was passed on Tuesday following debates on motions concerning rising insecurity across the country. Lawmakers said the officials are expected to explain how security funds have been utilised.
The House also urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the recruitment of forest guards in states affected by insecurity, similar to the initiative recently approved in Oyo State.
The resolutions come amid growing concern over recent mass abductions of students and teachers in Oyo and Borno states. The President has already approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of those still in captivity.
