The House of Representatives has passed the state police bill following a vote during Thursday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
Mr Abbas said 288 lawmakers voted in favour of the bill, while four voted against it. The vote was conducted by a show of hands after the Speaker explained that the electronic voting system was not functional.
The decision came a day after members dedicated plenary proceedings to debating the proposed legislation on the establishment of state police across the country.
