Five kidnapped victims have been rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army during a counter-terrorism operation in Kogi State, north-central Nigeria.
The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Hassan Abdullahi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the victims were intercepted along the Oshokoshoko–Adankolo route in the Adankolo Forest area.
He said the victims were abandoned by armed terrorists who fled following sustained military pressure on their camps during coordinated ground and air operations in forested parts of the state.
According to Mr Abdullahi, the rescued victims were taken to a military medical facility for treatment and debriefing, while efforts are underway to reunite them with their families after necessary medical and administrative procedures.
