The Kebbi State Police Command says it has arrested suspected Boko Haram members, Lakurawa bandits, informants and logistics suppliers during a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, said three suspected members of the Mamudawa/Boko Haram group were arrested on 5 June along the Illo-Lolo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area. He said four suspected Lakurawa bandits were also apprehended on 7 June, while another suspect was arrested for allegedly supplying food and logistics to the group.
The commissioner said police operatives, working with vigilantes and the Civilian Joint Task Force, rescued a kidnapped woman, Asmau Isah, on 10 June following an attack on her residence in Birnin Kebbi. One suspect was arrested during the operation, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang.
Hadejia also confirmed the arrest of a suspected bandit informant, the recovery of a pump-action rifle, cartridges and a locally made pistol, as well as the recovery of a stolen Mercedes-Benz vehicle. He added that a separate investigation is underway into the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl by a security guard in Jega Local Government Area.
