Police Vow to Prosecute Mob That Killed Woman Over False Child Theft Accusation in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned the mob killing of a woman on Sunday in Maraban Jos over fictitious allegations of child stealing, describing the act as barbaric and a direct assault on the rule of law. Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan said the Divisional Police Officer received a distress call about a woman being attacked by a mob over allegations of child theft without proof. Officers responded swiftly, rescued the woman, and moved her to the station for safety and investigation. However, a large crowd in their hundreds later stormed the police station, overpowered officers on duty, forcibly removed the woman from custody, killed her, and set her body ablaze.

The victim was a native of Maraban Jos. The command stressed that no person or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands. Several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident, and a manhunt is ongoing for others involved. A comprehensive investigation has commenced, and all culprits will face the full weight of the law. The police commissioner, CP Rabiu Muhammad, warned that the command will not tolerate jungle justice, mob action, or attacks on police formations and personnel.

Muhammad urged citizens to report suspicious persons or activities to the police and allow due process. He said the command remains committed to protecting lives, property, and upholding justice in accordance with the law. The police appealed to the public to cooperate with the investigation and provide any information that could lead to the arrest of other suspects.

The police have assured the public that all those involved in the killing will be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others. The command has increased patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further incidents of jungle justice.
