ALDG Seeks Faster Expansion of Nigeria’s Gas Infrastructure

The Association of Local Distributors of Gas has called for urgent and coordinated action to improve gas accessibility across Nigeria, urging government agencies, investors and industry operators to focus on practical measures that will expand domestic gas utilisation.

The call was made at the second edition of the ALDG Business Forum in Abuja, where stakeholders from government, regulatory agencies, financial institutions and the gas industry examined ways to improve gas distribution despite Nigeria’s estimated 215 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves.

Participants identified inadequate infrastructure, limited domestic utilisation and financing challenges as major obstacles to gas access. They called for greater investment in pipelines, storage facilities and distribution networks, as well as increased support from development finance institutions and stronger collaboration across the gas value chain.

ALDG Chairman, Kehinde Alabi, said Nigeria must move from gas abundance to gas accessibility through the effective implementation of existing policies. The forum comes as the Federal Government steps up efforts to address rising cooking gas prices, including measures to tackle LPG hoarding and diversion to neighbouring countries.
