Five youth footballers have died in a road accident along Airport Road in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State while travelling to a friendly match.
The victims were among eighteen passengers in a Toyota Sienna vehicle that lost control and somersaulted. Several others sustained injuries.
The Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abubakar Umar Dutsinmari, said Governor Nasir Idris witnessed the accident and joined the rescue effort before directing emergency assistance for the injured.
During a condolence visit to the District Head of Ambursa, the commissioner announced financial support of twenty million naira for the families of the deceased, one million naira for each injured victim, and two million naira for the other occupants of the vehicle on behalf of the governor.
