President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, known as PFIPC, and submit a report within 30 days.
In a statement from Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said PFIPC is fictitious and has no legal basis after one Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew claimed to be its Director-General and a presidential appointee.
Investigators will probe alleged forged appointment letters, claims used to seek diplomatic support and visa help, and multiple bank accounts opened in the name of the non-existent agency. The ICPC will also examine any officials or institutions that may have enabled the scheme and recommend reforms to prevent a repeat.
All federal ministries and agencies have been told to cooperate fully.
Adeyemi, who denies wrongdoing, already faces an eight-count criminal charge, with a court hearing set for July 27. He has accused Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila of demanding money for his appointment, an allegation Gbajabiamila denies, threatening a ten-billion-naira defamation suit.
