Security sources say troops of Operation Enduring Peace rescued seven travellers abducted along the Riyom–Abuja highway in Plateau State, in a nighttime operation.
The rescue reportedly followed a distress call around 9:30 pm Monday near Sopp village, Riyom Local Government Area.
Troops found an abandoned blue Opel Vectra on the road and launched a search into the surrounding bush, eventually making contact with the suspected kidnappers, who fled and abandoned their captives.
Sources say the travellers had boarded the vehicle in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, en route to Jos when they were intercepted.
All seven were reportedly rescued unharmed, with a manhunt now underway for the fleeing suspects. Troops say they continue routine patrols across the area to protect commuters and infrastructure.
