Dangote Petroleum Refinery has switched to dollar-denominated pricing for petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, ending naira sales effective July 13, in a move fuel marketers warn could push pump prices higher nationwide.
Petrol is now priced at $0.779 per litre at the gantry, diesel at $1.087, and aviation fuel at $0.942, with all previously issued naira invoices voided. Industry sources say the shift follows a widening currency mismatch: Dangote continues receiving fewer naira-denominated crude cargoes from NNPCL than dollar ones, while selling a large share of its refined products in naira.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association and the Crude Oil Refiners Association of Nigeria both warn that marketers will now need to source dollars to buy fuel, costs likely to be passed on to consumers.
Dangote made a similar temporary switch in March 2025, reversing it once naira crude allocations improved.
