Kogi State Government says it has rescued all four people kidnapped during Tuesday’s attack on an examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area, ending a two-day ordeal.
Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo said Governor Ahmed Ododo ordered a joint operation involving the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade and 21 Battalion, the DSS, police and local vigilantes, which saturated the surrounding forest until kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled. The rescued — Principal Elder Daniel Iyanaa, NECO official Solomon Audu, and two candidates — are undergoing medical checks and debriefing.
The Commissioner earlier alleged that the examination centre was unauthorised, functioning as a so-called “miracle centre” for external candidates, and did not align with the security framework put in place by the state government to protect candidates writing the ongoing NECO examinations across the state.
Fanwo thanked President Tinubu for directing federal security support and said operations continue in the forest to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
