The Federal Ministry of Works has instituted a new security outfit to protect critical infrastructure along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Launched on Sunday by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, the inaugural Coastal Highway Guards constitute 40 officers, led by retired General Adekunle Shodunke, who will maintain a visible presence along the highway and work with state security agencies to maintain law and order along the highway.
The guards are expected to report suspicious activities, monitor and report vandalism, and help prevent activities considered detrimental to the safety and smooth use of the highway.
They will also restrict hawking, loitering, and commercial motorcycles (Okada) or tricycles (Keke) on the highway.
