Norwegian Football Federation to call for Infantino’s resignation

Head of the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF), Lise Klaveness, says the federation will call for the resignation of FIFA president Gianni Infantino

Speaking after a meeting of the Norwegian federation’s governing bodies, Klaveness says Infantino — quote — “does not have the institutional trust required to lead FIFA in a stable manner in the current climate.”

Infantino is standing for re-election for a fourth and final term next March. He must secure a majority of the 211 votes from the organisation’s members in order to be re-elected. The Confederation of African Football’s Executive Committee has unanimously confirmed its support for Infantino while UEFA’s governing body says it is withdrawing from all FIFA events.

The FIFA president has come under enormous pressure since the failure of his plan to open FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, to private investors. On Thursday, FIFA apologised to the FIFA Council and member associations for its errors and said it will “ensure they do not happen again.”
