Gunmen have abducted more than sixty worshippers from a mosque in Niger State.
Police say the attackers stormed a mosque in Dekara, in Borgu local government area, at about two p.m. on Friday, during Jumu’at prayers. It followed earlier attacks on two nearby villages, Gidan-Zana and Kpenya.
Residents say the attack was coordinated, striking four communities in Borgu at the same time. They say the gunmen fired shots before rounding up over sixty worshippers and marching them into the surrounding forest.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said no life lost. He said a joint security team has been deployed to the area for assessment and rescue operations, though they cannot yet confirm how many people were taken.
