Edo Assembly impeaches suspended ex-Speaker

The Edo State House of Assembly has formally impeached its former Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, who represents Owan West Constituency 1, reversing his earlier resignation.

Speaker Yekini Idaiye announced the decision on Monday, saying Agbebaku’s resignation notice, given during plenary on August 17, was never officially presented or documented. Idaiye said Agbebaku was impeached and did not resign.

The impeachment notice had been signed by 17 of the assembly’s 24 members. Agbebaku had stepped down amid an earlier impeachment push, reportedly linked to fraud allegations over vehicle purchases. He remains suspended.

The House has directed him to return all government property in his possession by Friday, warning that security agencies would be involved if he fails to comply.
