The Abia State Government says it will establish two additional isolation centres as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve disease preparedness. Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced the decision in Umuahia on Monday after a meeting of the State Executive Council chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
He said the centres would be located at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Aba and the Ozuakoli Leprosy Centre, while the Amachara Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre will remain the state’s flagship facility. Kanu stressed that there are no confirmed cases of diseases of public health concern in Abia.

Kanu further noted that reconstruction works are ongoing in several general hospitals and expected to be completed by November. He said the Ministry of Basic Education is also renovating schools, training new teachers, assessing dilapidated structures and introducing standardised examinations across the state.
