Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko says she lost ₦5 million on her first-ever sports bet, placed on the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
Etiko shared her disappointment on Instagram shortly after Sunday’s final, in which Spain beat Argentina 1-0 at MetLife Stadium. “First time betting and I lost,” the post said. “Will never try it again. My 5M is gone. In fact, I’m done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me.”
Her post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans — some sympathising with her loss, others teasing her over the failed prediction, and several urging her to stay away from gambling going forward.
The World Cup final drew heavy betting interest globally, with Etiko among many first-time bettors drawn in by the high-profile matchup.
