Airtel Africa and SpaceX have agreed to introduce Starlink’s direct-to-cell satellite service across the telecommunications company’s African markets, promising improved connectivity for users.
The deal covers 14 countries, including Nigeria, and aims to connect mobile phones directly via satellite when traditional networks are unavailable.
The service is expected to support text messaging and data for some applications, especially in areas with limited or no ground network coverage. Compatible smartphones will be able to connect directly to Starlink’s satellites.
