Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has appealed to the Federal Government for support in constructing the Ibom Deep Seaport in Mbo Council Area and tackling ecological challenges in the state. He made the request while leading a delegation of Akwa Ibom stakeholders to visit President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Â
“It is quite impossible for any state government to embark and finish a deep sea port without the support of the federal government. So your excellency, we come here to appeal for your fatherly intervention so that we can continue with the deep sea port project. The realization of this project will be an economic game changer not only for our state but for the South-South, South-East respectively and indeed the nation at large.”
Governor Eno also invited President Tinubu to commission the Arise Resorts and key road projects in May 2025. In response, the president assured him of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting development initiatives in Akwa Ibom.

” I will not let you down. I’ve heard about the request of Ibom, Deep Sea Port, the request for state visit, and the request for further development programs and plans. You have a very good governor.”
During the visit, Akwa Ibom’s traditional rulers, led by the Oku Ibom Ibibio III, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, conferred the state’s highest traditional title, “Otuekong,” meaning Commander-in-Chief of Akwa Ibom, on President Tinubu.
The Ibom Deep Seaport is a key component of the larger Ibom Industrial City project, which has faced delays since its conception in 1999. Efforts to attract investors have included a road show in London during former Governor Godswill Akpabio’s administration.
