Algeria have become the fifth African country to record a win at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Jordan 2-1 in their Group J match in Santa Clara, United States.
The North Africans came from a goal down to secure the victory, with Nadhir Benbouali and Amine Gouiri scoring the decisive goals at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.
The result follows Algeria’s opening 3-0 defeat to Argentina in their first group game earlier in the tournament.
Egypt, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Morocco have also recorded wins at the competition, while several other African teams are still searching for their first victory.
