The All Progressives Congress has accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi and former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai of seeking to return to power for personal gain. In a statement by national publicity secretary Felix Morka, the party said the trio’s recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies was driven by frustration and a fading sense of relevance.
Morka described the remarks at Amaechi’s 60th birthday lecture as a gathering of “displaced rent-seekers” who misused their positions in office and now oppose Tinubu’s reforms. He claimed their attacks stem from self-serving motivations and accused them of ignoring Nigeria’s economic challenges while in power.

Defending Tinubu’s record, Morka said the president’s reforms have ended fuel subsidy corruption, harmonised exchange rates and increased government revenue, with states now paying a N70,000 minimum wage, up from N30,000. He noted Nigeria’s GDP growth reached 4.6 percent in late 2024, the highest in a decade despite global pressures.
Morka said Tinubu’s policies are focused on long-term stability and growth, even if they bring short-term difficulties.
