APC Disowns NASS Principal Officers Announced By Akpabio, Abbas

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has spoken against the party’s principal officers who were announced in the senate and house of representatives.

At plenary yesterday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Senator Opeyemi Bamidele of Ekiti central, as majority leader, and Senator David Umahi of Ebonyi south, as the deputy majority leader.

Named as Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip were Senators Ali Ndume of Borno South, and Lola Ashiru of Kwara South respectively.

In the the lower chamber, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, named Honourables Julius Ihonvbere, lawmaker representing Owan east/Owan west of Edo, and Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, representing Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro of Kogi State, as the Majority Leader, and Deputy Majority Leader respectively.

At a meeting of the national working committee (NWC) and APC governors in Abuja yesterday, the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, described the news as a “rumour” and said the chosen lawmakers were not a decision of the APC leadership.
